Saranno presenti all’inaugurazione, in qualità di ospiti speciali, Philippe Daverio e Jean Blanchaert, che introdurranno la mostra “RITORNERANNO LE PIRAMIDI”.

Luca Scacchi Gracco, lombardo di nascita, ma cittadino del mondo, è da molti considerato una delle figure più lungimiranti del 900 artistico italiano. Amico e frequentatore della casa di Picasso (fu il grande pittore spagnolo ad aggiungere al suo cognome quello di Gracco), è stato tra i primi a riconoscere la qualità e la genialità di Piero Manzoni e Francis Bacon, che fu a lungo suo ospite a Londra e che venne da lui presentato alla Piccadilly Gallery, quando ancora nessuno lo considerava. Nei primi anni ’60 portò in Italia i più bei Klimt e i più bei Schiele. “La Speranza” di Gustav Klimt, da lui acquistato a Budapest, è oggi il gioiello della National Gallery di Ottawa; negli stessi anni comprò un’importante collezione di Egon Schiele alla Galleria Nebhay di Vienna. Nel 1962 organizzò nella sua galleria Studio d’Arte Contemporanea in via Marco De Marchi 5 a Milano una mostra dedicata a piccoli capolavori di plastica e bachelite, materiali allora disprezzati dagli ortodossi dell’arte.
“Affascinato dal Museo Archeologico di Torino, nel lontano ’52, mi precipitai al Cairo entusiasta. All’Hotel Piramisi l’amico poeta Andrè Malraux mi decantò il cielo di Samarcanda. Il deserto mi ha fatto capire l’archeologia e l’astrologia. Quattromila anni or sono Cheope Faraone costruì la più grande piramide d’Egitto profetizzando la tecnologia della plastica nella copertura liscia dei lati sino alla cuspide del poliedro. Le piramidi emergono dal deserto e si stagliano sul cielo diventando punti di riferimento nello Spazio. Oggi attraverso il rigore dell’impaginazione e della sintesi stiamo andando verso il nuovo geroglifico, ecco perché ritorneranno le piramidi.”

Luca Scacchi Gracco, Lombard by birth but a citizen of the world, is regarded by many as one of the most far-sighted figures of twentieth-century Italian art. A friend and frequent guest in Picasso’s home (it was the great Spanish painter who added “Gracco” to his surname), he was among the first to recognise the quality and genius of Piero Manzoni and Francis Bacon, the latter being his guest for a long period in London and introduced by him to the Piccadilly Gallery at a time when nobody yet considered him. In the early 1960s he brought to Italy some of the finest works by Klimt and Schiele. Hope by Gustav Klimt, which he purchased in Budapest, is today one of the treasures of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa; during those same years he also acquired an important collection of works by Egon Schiele from the Nebehay Gallery in Vienna. In 1962 he organised, at his Studio d’Arte Contemporanea in Via Marco De Marchi 5 in Milan, an exhibition dedicated to small masterpieces in plastic and Bakelite — materials then despised by the orthodox art world.

“Fascinated by the Archaeological Museum in Turin, back in ’52 I rushed enthusiastically to Cairo. At the Pyramisa Hotel my friend, the poet André Malraux, spoke lyrically of the skies over Samarkand. The desert taught me to understand archaeology and astrology. Four thousand years ago Pharaoh Cheops built the greatest pyramid in Egypt, foreseeing the technology of plastic in the smooth covering of the sides up to the apex of the polyhedron. The pyramids rise from the desert and stand out against the sky, becoming points of reference in Space. Today, through the rigour of composition and synthesis, we are moving towards a new hieroglyph, that is why the pyramids will return.”

And this is the reason for this exhibition.

The artist will be present at the inauguration evening.
