Il video documentario Fragments, realizzato da Silvio da Rù, attore, regista e insegnante di teatro, documenta il lavoro di Manuela Vallicelli tra il suo studio a Milano e la realizzazione del murale Polaroid in sviluppo presso il Museo d’Arte Paolo Pini (MAPP). Il video nasce come testimonianza diretta del processo creativo e del contesto in cui l’opera prende forma, restituendo anche la fase originaria del lavoro prima delle successive trasformazioni.
Il montaggio è stato realizzato insieme a Daniela Bestetti per Nextarts Production, mentre la musica (Shameless – Stereo MC’s) è stata scelta dall’artista su richiesta del regista.
“Polaroid in sviluppo”
Il video documentario Fragments rappresenta oggi l’unica testimonianza visiva dello stato originario del murale Polaroid in sviluppo, realizzato per la collezione permanente del Museo d’Arte Paolo Pini (MAPP) di Milano su invito del gallerista Enzo Cannaviello.
L’opera nasce come immagine sospesa e indefinita: una figura maschile sfocata, priva di tratti riconoscibili, racchiusa nella forma della polaroid, a evocare una condizione di identità fragile e in divenire.
In un secondo momento, anche attraverso l’esperienza nella Bottega di Arteterapia del museo, l’intervento si è evoluto accogliendo le sollecitazioni delle persone che vivono quotidianamente quello spazio. Il murale si è così progressivamente “sviluppato”, acquisendo elementi identitari, volto, sguardo, presenza, fino a trovare una nuova definizione.
Il documentario conserva quindi la fase iniziale dell’opera, rendendo visibile un passaggio trasformativo oggi non più osservabile.
Collezione Permanente
La Collezione Permanente raccoglie opere di arte contemporanea di artisti nazionali e internazionali, contribuendo al progetto di trasformazione dell’ex Ospedale Psichiatrico Paolo Pini in un luogo di dialogo e cultura.
Dal 1995 si è costituita una collezione di livello internazionale, che accoglie i lavori di oltre 140 artisti e continua ad arricchirsi ogni anno con nuove acquisizioni. Le opere sono distribuite nei diversi padiglioni e nel parco.
Nel 2004 Manuela Vallicelli ha realizzato il murale Polaroid in sviluppo, situato sulla facciata ovest del Padiglione 7 (esterno).

“Fragments”, a documentary about Manuela Vallicelli
The video documentary Fragments, directed by Silvio da Rù, actor, director, and theatre teacher, documents Manuela Vallicelli’s work between her studio in Milan and the creation of the mural Polaroid in sviluppo at the Paolo Pini Art Museum (MAPP). The video is a direct testimony of the creative process and the context in which the work takes shape, also preserving the original phase of the mural before later transformations.
The editing was carried out together with Daniela Bestetti for Nextarts Production, while the music (Shameless – Stereo MC’s) was selected by the artist at the director’s request.
“Polaroid in Progress”
The documentary Fragments is today the only visual testimony of the original state of the mural Polaroid in progress, created for the permanent collection of the Museo d’Arte Paolo Pini (MAPP) in Milan upon invitation by the gallerist Enzo Cannaviello.
The work originates as a suspended and undefined image: a blurred male figure, without recognisable facial features, enclosed within the form of a Polaroid, evoking a condition of fragile and evolving identity.
At a later stage, also through the experience within the museum’s Art Therapy Workshop, the work evolved by responding to the input of the people who live in that space on a daily basis. The mural thus progressively “developed”, acquiring identity elements, face, gaze, presence, until it reached a new definition.
The documentary therefore preserves the initial phase of the work, making visible a transformative passage that is no longer observable today.
Permanent Collection
The Permanent Collection brings together contemporary artworks by both national and international artists, contributing to the transformation of the former Paolo Pini Psychiatric Hospital into a place of dialogue and culture.
Since 1995, an internationally recognised collection has been established, now including works by over 140 artists and continuing to grow each year through new acquisitions. The artworks are distributed across the different pavilions and the park.
In 2004, Manuela Vallicelli created the mural Polaroid in progress, located on the western façade of Pavilion 7 (exterior).
